Stick for India

Stick for India is a social project using field hockey as a tool for the development of impoverished local children. Founded in 2006 by international hockey players: Santi Freixa and Andreu Enrich, the program is based in the rural district of Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh State) which is one of the poorest areas in India.

After 7 years of continuous work more than 1000 boys and girls are enjoying sport in their lives and the opportunity to help break the cycle of poverty that is endemic in this region. Stick for India has sponsored schools, organized hockey camps, trained Indian coaches, created a hockey academy and established a sports infrastructure for the local communities.

It is the aim of Santi & Andreu to foster the benefits of sport and opportunity. Benefits like: teamwork, social unity, a healthy lifestyle, empathy, emotional intelligence and a new way to have fun. This is captured in their moto, "Hockey for Hope".
