Notes from the field

I started playing young from as young as I can remember. It was in the family. I made my National U21 debut in 2008 and my National mens debut in 2010. I was born Durban, South Africa. Most of my weekends growing up involved being in the ocean and playing a lot of sport. I still try to get into the ocean as much as possible but for the moment I'm living in Belgium and its somewhat colder than South Africa. Being outside is a huge part of my life no matter where I am in the world and when I can I like to spend my time surfing, SUPing, swimming in the ocean, running and most recently cycling. I also really enjoy a round golf and spending time with friends around a good braai (South African for BBQ).  I studied Small Business Management and courses in IT management and Sports Nutrition. Currently Im working at Royal Antwerp HC where I play and work with the youth. Although Im South African I have played a majority of my hockey in Europe and truly loved it.

Taine's Ritual

I have two main routines/rituals. I always make sure my kit and gear is clean before each game. I’ll wash my kit anywhere to make sure its clean. Triple checking that my mouthguard is with me right up until the first whistle. It even goes in my hand language when I travel.
